Berenguer Reborn Tutorial:

Magnetic pacifier:

Materials:

Cut a piece of the appropriate colored felt into a smaller piece to fit inside the head.  The shape you choose is your choice.

Place the felt inside of the head and position so that it covers the holes for the nose.  Place finger inside and feel where the mouth is under the felt and then pull the felt out with your finger marking the spot.

Place some of your glue (I use Gem-tac) on the felt and place magnet into it and press down.

Do not glue the magnet directly to the vinyl inside the head.  The properties of the metal could cause the vinyl to turn colors and would show through the vinyl over time.

Please make sure that you glue it so that the magnets will attract and not repel.

Allow some time for the glue to set some before moving to the next step.

Place glue on the opposite side of the felt and place into the head.  Position in the correct place and press glue side down onto the vinyl.  I use the other magnet on the lips to guide the felt and to keep the magnet firmly attached to the felt as the glue continues to dry.

You may use any type/ shape pacifier that you want.  The pacifier will need to have the nipple cut off.

Try to make it flush with the plastic.  I use an exacto knife to cut it away.

Then use silicone sealant (found near aquariums) or E6000 glue on the magnet and place it in the center of the pacifier over the nipple area.

Again, make sue that you are gluing the correct side down and that the magnets will attract and not repel.

Allow this to dry over night.

I will discuss another type of modified pacifier that does not use magnets in a bonus section at the end of this tutorial.

Assembling the bodies :

1st body type:

Materials:

  • Replacement cloth body
  • Cloth bag (for interior weight)
  • Plastic cable ties
  • Plastic pellets/ Glass beads/ or sand
  • Polyfill cotton
  • Fingernail clippers
  • Metal file (optional)

Attaching the limbs:

Insert thin cable ties into the cloth body to attach the limbs and head tot he cloth body.
Thread the plastic tie through the locking piece, but do not pull it to make the opening tight--keep it loose.
Attach the prepared limbs (already filled with plasic pellets, sand, colored sand, etc.and plugged)  and pull the plastic tie to secure loosely for now.

You will pull all ties tight at the end.

Continue attaching all of the limbs to the cloth body as above.

For the body:

I use cloth bags of various sizes in a rectangular shape that are sewn on all sides with a small opening left at the top.

You may also use a knee high stocking filled with plastic or glass pellets to weight the body.

Fill the cloth bag with your weighting material--sand, plastic pellets, glass beads, etc. and sew closed.
Now you are ready to place this into your doll's cloth body.
Place some polyfill down at the bottom of the body and then place the cloth bag into the center cavity.

Position polyfill around the entire bag so that there is a nice padded layer between the bag and the cloth body.

For the head:

I use helium quality thick balloons filled with store bought "sandbox" play sand to add weight to the heads.

Knee-hi stockings work well to hold plastic or glass beads as well.  I fill it halfway with the plastic pellets, tie it at the center and then fold the stocking back over and tie off again.

Place "rose" or prefereed colored felt in position (see modified pacifiers above if you are glueing a magnet inside the head).  Place some poly-fil inside the head behind the felt to keep it from being pushed out of place.

Insert the weighted bag, balloon, or stocking inside the head.

Keep it centered so that you have an evenly distributed weighted head.

Place more polyfill inside the head packing between the vinyl and the weighted bag.  You can use the plastic insert originally sent with the head if you like and insert like a plug.

You do not have to use the plastic plug--it is personal choice.

Place head into the neck opening and position the "plastic stem" down the center of the poly-fill.

Place head into the neck opening and position the "plastic stem" down the center of the poly-fill.

Pull plastic tie to secure the head.

Don't pull the ties very tight until you are satisfied with the way the doll looks stuffed and put together.  You may need to make some modification or add stuffing to areas or even remove some.

Completed results:

If you are happy with the results then you may pull all of the ties tight and cut the excess off with fingernail clippers close to the fastener.

If you have any sharp edges you may file them down with a fingernail  file.

The 22" Berenguer La Baby (new release) doll on the left has a brand new Apple Valley "Num-Num" body and the 20" Berenguer La Baby doll on the right has a custom made body for use with the 17" Berenguer Lots to Love limbs.
